Why These Ingredients
What goes into every jar, and why we chose it over the alternative.
The Foundation
Whole Rolled Oats
The base ingredient. Keeps all three parts of the kernel intact, which keeps the fiber, protein, and minerals that get milled out of more processed oats — plus beta-glucan, which supports digestion and helps you stay full.
Organic Quinoa Crisps
Lightly puffed quinoa for texture and crunch. One of the few plant foods that's a complete protein, carrying all nine essential amino acids.
Almonds
Added for bite and richness — unsaturated fats, plant protein, and vitamin E.
Fruit Content
13.8% real fruit by weight, against a typical 4–8% in most granolas.
- Blueberry — non-GMO dried blueberries, for antioxidant content
- Mango — organic dried mango, for tropical sweetness
- Banana Crumble — organic dried banana, for mellow flavor
- Coconut — organic dried coconut, for toasted richness
- Cranberry — dried cranberry, for tartness and antioxidants
Sweetening Strategy
Three sweeteners, used in combination rather than one alone:
- Honey — sweetens and binds the clusters together
- Milled Cane Sugar — caramelizes during baking
- Barley Malt Syrup — malty notes, lower sweetness intensity
Binding Agents
Rice flour and cornstarch hold the clusters together — no gums or fillers.
Oil Choice: Expeller-Pressed Canola
Chosen for its neutral flavor and even toasting. It's the ingredient people ask about most, so here's the reasoning in full:
No — it's squeezed out mechanically with pressure, not chemicals.
Granola bakes at roughly 300–325°F, well below canola's smoke point of 400–450°F.
Harvard's School of Public Health and the FDA both consider canola oil heart-healthy.
Why not other oils?
- Coconut oil — creates dense, waxy clusters and competes with the fruit's flavor
- Butter — browns at bake temperature and adds a dairy allergen
- Olive oil — its peppery flavor overpowers the delicate spice notes
- Sunflower, safflower, corn, soybean — higher in fragile polyunsaturated fats that oxidize more easily
- Avocado oil — UC Davis testing found roughly 82% of market samples were rancid before their expiration date, or cut with cheaper oils like soybean
Signature Spice Blend
A proprietary blend of cardamom, fennel seed, fenugreek, and nutmeg — built to add cozy, aromatic depth without ever tasting spiced.
Final Touches
- Salt — used minimally, to enhance other flavors rather than add saltiness
- Natural flavor — applied sparingly, for batch-to-batch consistency
What's Excluded
No artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, GMOs, high-fructose syrup, hidden fillers, synthetic sweeteners, or plastic packaging.
